How do Breast Lift Work?

May-01-2020

Breast lift surgery is a treatment that is known as mastopexy in medical terminology. The treatment is carried out to change the shape of the breast and the way they look like. It is done through the removal of skin and then reshaping and lifting the breasts in an upward direction. Many women across the globe get it done if their nipples are pointing downwards or their breasts are sagging. It helps in improving their perception about themselves thus boosting their self-confidence.

The procedure of breast lifting treatment is not done to increase or decrease the size of the breasts but many women tend to get it done with either a combination of breast augmentation surgery or breast reduction surgery. It is mostly done when the breasts start losing their firmness or elasticity due to pregnancy, drastic weight gain or weight loss or due to gravity.

How to begin with the treatment?

In order to begin with the breast lift treatment, the doctor is going to review the overall medical history to determine whether the patient has any serious past or present medical conditions that can result in a serious problem. For instance, people who are suffering from diabetes might have to be a bit more careful.

The doctor is then likely to examine the breasts and the type of skin the patient has. It is very important to have a good tone skin because it will help maintain the position of the breasts. For the purposes of maintaining a medical record, the doctor will be taking pictures of the breasts as well.

Recovery Phase

After the breast lift treatment is carried out, the breasts will be covered with gauze in order to protect them from any sort of bacteria. The doctor will insert small tubes near the incision sites to help keep blood or fluid from accumulating near the place where the surgery was carried out. If the fluid accumulates get it checked as it can result in an infection.

Furthermore, the breasts are likely to be sore and swollen for at least two weeks. After two weeks, the patient will notice that the swelling is eventually going away. There would be no sensation near the skin or the nipples for at least three to four weeks. It can cause uneasiness as women often feel numb in that particular area.

Moreover, during the first few weeks of getting the treatment done, the doctor is going to prescribe medications to keep away the pain. All sorts of physical activity would be restricted as it is better to avoid any sort of pressure. Patients are advised to sleep on their back and no on the side as it can put pressure on either breast.

The change in the shape of the breast becomes visible after the first few weeks have passed. The change is slow and gradual therefore women should not expect a drastic change in the way they look or appear. The results of the breast are not long-lasting as the breasts start sagging once a woman starts ageing. The skin loses its firmness and elasticity during the ageing process.
